Anemoi

I think all religions talk about the same thing, and I wanted to photograph that. The invisible, the magical, the supernatural. The things which is inside of us, and in the sparks in the sea.

This series explores the invisible forces that we feel in nature, with other people and within ourselves.

“Anemoi” is the name that the Greeks gave to the different gods of the wind, considering that each wind brought specific things and effects. Some winds brought rain and fertility. Some winds called for spring, bringing rebirth, etc. I’m profoundly interested in the Greek’s conception of these invisible forces and how those ideas have been transmitted to us.

In order to observe the wind, I decided to work with fabric to be able to see the force, direction and turbulence.

Fabric, and more specifically veils, have always been related to spirituality in the sense that they have been used to represent and hide the magic. Illumination is sometimes referred as “lifting the veil”. The significance of the veil brought to the work to another layer of meaning, linking to spirituality.

It was truly amazing to be able to materialize my ideas with the help of my sister, Esperanza. It was a fun and liberating experience for her, and it was a beautifully bonding moment. Co-creations are fascinating and especially strong when working with family members.

I wanted to transmit the vitality and the force of those invisible forces in an inspirational and dynamic way, and I felt Esperanza was able to bring that into the artwork.
